Since his first violin lessons at 7 years old, Philippe Brault has always been looking for the biggest instrument until he chose the doble bass at 12. When he was a teenager, he started playing bass in the rock band called “Mes Voisins n’en peuvent plus”.
He well graduated at the Cégep Saint-Laurent and joined Tomas Jensen in 1999. He recorded 4 albums with him as a bassist and arranger, and did a tour in the whole Quebec. He joined Pierre Lapointe’s band in 2004, as an arranger, music director and bassist. He took part into the creation of “les spectacles Pépiphonique”, “La forêt des mals-aimés” and several special events such as “Pierre Lapointe voit rouge/ Pierre Lapointe voit bleu” (Francopholies 2006), “Pierre Lapointe & l’Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal” (FrancoFolies 2007) and “Mutantes”.
Since 2004, he has multiplied his collaborations as an arranger (Fanfare Pourpour, Salut JOE!, Alexandre Belliard), a producer (Bruno Marcil, Ivy, Emi, Pierre Lapointe) and a bassist (Philippe B, Ligue d’Improvisation Musicale de Montréal).
Philippe Brault received in 2006 the Félix award for the best arrangement on the platinum album “La forêt des mal-aimés” by Pierre Lapointe.
